//PAINT

The series //PAINT is dealing with environmental challenges like the growing concern of climate change and/or our denial on it, both politically and ethically. The series is also reflects on alienation from ourselves, of the nature and its circulation. Underlying theme is the search or longing for the connection to the surrounding world and its beauty.

The pictures in this series are ‘iconic photographs' of typical finnish vegetation like trees by the water or in forest, or ordinary flowers that can be purchased from the local flowershop and people who are getting to together in summer festivals e.a. These paint and photography combinations question the authenticity in the images by transferring the work to a conceptual level. The series //PAINT connote to antonyms like natural/articial, true/false or conctrete/ abstract and is reflecting on the history of black and white versus colour photography and the relationship between painting and photography. Abstract areas of paint as synonyms for reality and ideas of it are appearing to be more real than the actual scenes underneath.The process reveals and emphasize the abstraction and artificial elements in the images. Through the abstraction created with acrylic paint the works states that life itself has become more and more artificial. The latest images of this series have been done by using apprepriation. By using some historic images of 1800 century or beginning of 1900 century of my home town Kuopio the works brings another perspective to time itself – the past, the present and the future. All the original photographs by Viktor Barsokevitsch (1863-1933) and Karl Granit (1857- 1894) are from the archives of the Museum of cultural history in Kuopio. // PAINT was presented for the first time in my solo exhibition at FT-Contemporary in 2011, in Berlin.
