Now is Now

In the series Now is Now there are many underlying themes woven as layers. The series follows my interest in everyday emotions and experiences that, although every human being is unique, can be felt and shared by all of us. Certain psychological patterns - what we do or how we respond - connects us people and generate an ‘emotional community’. I believe that our personal experiences and private perceptions can acquire a more universal meaning. Furthermore it deals with anxieties, existential threats and our survival in the ‘jungle of emotions’. This applies not only to the me and my experiences but also to all the viewers of my works. In addition it explores the importance of the present as well as time itself and its relativity. The past is just a memory and the future is a construction of the mind, and between these two is here and now, the only moment on which we have direct influence. The series Now is Now talk about balancing on the necessity of growing up and the relationship between childhood and adulthood. The last but not least an important topic I deal with is climate change as nature and life itself on earth is threatened by global warming, rising of the sea level, drought and big storms that eventually lead us into major challenges. All these topics create a kind of meta-reality or simulation of current life situation.

Photographs show distinctly reduced still lives of crumpled paper which – partly showing texts - come from my note books of recent years, during which I was confronted with some personal challenges - we all do from time to time.

The series was done in 2014-2020 in Paris and Provence in France, in USA in e.g. California, Arizona and Nevada deserts and in Kuopio, Finland. Climate scientists at the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Eastern Finland were guiding me with topics on small particle in the atmosphere,  climate change and climate engineering.
